On February 26th, 2012, Syeda Meftahul Marifa, a very talented and bright student of Environmental Science of Chittagong University, passed away.
Few days ago lying on the hospital bed she wrote, 'I am not scared of those evil minded people who wanted to destroy my life, rather I hold hands of my friends like you and walk a long way to see a world where women and girls are safe and can fulfill their dream..'
On 4th July 2011 this youngster decided to end her suffering by drinking acid from the university science lab. The sufferings were imposed by another miscreant student who wanted her as his property to which she refused. After eight months of unbearable pain, her sufferings finally ended with her death.
For how much longer will such heinous acts keeps on destroying dreams of students like Marifa? We do not want to see repetition of these inhumane acts and request all to come forward and end the phenomenon of sexual assault known as 'Eve Teasing'.
