Visiting the Survivors - Bintia

Bintia is one of the most recent acid burn victim at the ASF center. We met her during our visit in July. Some village boys had attacked nearly a month ago. The moment she realized it was acid they had used, she jumped into a nearby pond. This stopped further damage and will hopefully accelerate the healing process. However, half of her face and most of her scalp was already burned at that point, with her braid burned to her face. She was brought to the Acid survivors foundation center, 5 days after the incident and her treatment has been going on ever since. Her last surgery was successfully done around mid-July and she has been recovering quite well at the ASF Hospital.

Batman To The Rescue

Hi Guys!

Its the starting of another week and we are back with another Movie Night. This time we will be showing Batman Begins and The Dark Knight back to back! Its the same place at the same time.

The movie screening is essentially free. However, we will be accepting donations at the door - you can pay as much or as little as you like. However, as a guideline, we suggest $5 donations.

All proceeds will go to help acid victims in Bangladesh. For those of you who don't know, acid violence is a heinous act of burning, deformation, and destruction of the face and other parts of the body, this often causes disabilities and even death. It occurs mostly due to revenge for resisting sexual harassment, refusing marriage a proposal, failure to pay dowry, amongst various other related reasons. It is still very common in parts of South Asia especially in India and Bangladesh. Our donations will help victims with medical care before, during and after operations, psychological care, legal issues, and such and help raise awareness among the community. The movie nights are back by popular demand this summer. This week we will be showing you two of Leonardo DiCaprio's most recent hits: Inception and Shutter Island. Check below for schedules and location.
